The main action of caffeine is to increase alertness and concentration.

Caffeine is also thermogenic, that is to say that it promotes the elimination of fat. This property is used in slimming creams, because it would be necessary to drink very large quantities of coffee to have an effect at this level.

It also plays a role in increasing the heart rate and blood pressure.

Coffee is often consumed by athletes to increase their performance and fight against fatigue thanks to the caffeine. This effect appears within an hour of intake.

The main antioxidants contained in coffee are caffeic acids, chloorogenic acid and lignans. These molecules have an antioxidant power. They allow to fight against accelerated cellular ageing, but also against the deterioration and the destruction of cells. They thus prevent the risk of the appearance of cardiovascular diseases, certain types of cancers in particular the cancer of the liver, the pharynx and the oesophagus and certain diseases related to cellular ageing like the losses of memory found in the Alzheimer's disease.

It is interesting to know that drinking coffee reduces the risk of gout attacks (inflammation due to the formation of uric acid crystals that settle in a joint) and liver problems.

Taking coffee also facilitates intestinal transit and helps regulate blood sugar levels, which is interesting for people who suffer from diabetes.

However, I would like to draw your attention to the fact that a high consumption of coffee, i.e. more than 3 cups per day, can lead to headaches, insomnia, anxiety and nervousness:

Of an increase in the cholesterol level

An increase in blood pressure

A miscarriage

Finally, if you suffer from gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) or irritation of your digestive tract such as ulcers, it is preferable not to drink coffee.
