Acetaminophen : Danger of overdose!

Acetaminophen or Paracetamol: the risks of non-compliance with dosage and time intervals

Paracetamol is the most widely consumed medication in France, widely used to relieve pain and lower fever. However, one crucial thing every consumer needs to be aware of is its dosage and time interval.

If you tend to take paracetamol outside its usual dosage, i.e. at least one gram every 4 to 6 hours, this can have harmful consequences, mainly for the liver.

The 4-6 hour interval is of the utmost importance. This is because paracetamol, once in the body, undergoes transformations into other molecules. These molecules can become toxic to the liver. It is imperative to allow the liver and kidneys to eliminate these molecules, thus avoiding their accumulation and the risk of toxicity.

It is therefore essential to respect the maximum recommended adult dose of one gram. It is also crucial to respect the minimum interval of 4 to 6 hours between each dose. Failure to follow these guidelines can lead to serious liver complications, which can unfortunately be life-threatening in some cases.
