Parkinson's disease has caused the death of many people and great personalities such as Pope John Paul II, the American actor Robin Williams and the famous boxer Mohamed Ali Clay.
Parkinson's disease causes both psychic (mental disturbances) and motor (the person has difficulty moving his or her limbs properly) disorders.
It is due to the destruction of neurons in different areas of the brain and in particular in the substantia nigra which is responsible for the production and release of dopamine.

Dopamine is a neurotransmitter (chemical messenger) that is involved in emotional states and motor skills.
Parkinson's disease causes a reduction in the level of dopamine and leads to very characteristic symptoms such as
- Psychic disorders (anxiety, depression)
- Tremors at rest
- Muscle rigidity
- Language disorders
- Difficulty in writing
- Difficulty walking
- Loss of balance
- Slowing of movements
The cause of Parkinson's disease is not really known. However, observations show that certain factors can promote Parkinson's disease, such as heredity, significant exposure to heavy metals (lead, mercury, cadmium, etc.), pesticides or herbicides.
The diagnosis of Parkinson's disease is made by a specialist (neurologist) who observes the characteristic symptoms and the improvement or stabilization of the patient's condition following the use of dopamine-based treatments.
The goal of the treatments is to reduce the onset of symptoms and delay the progression of the disease.
